TO THE CONGREGATION
AND OUR COMMUNITY OF
June 15, 2016
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the love of God for the world made visible.
John 3:16 reminds us that, “God so loved the world that He gave His only
Son...” Jesus is the love gift of God for the salvation of humankind. Jesus
said, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,
but to save the world through Him.” (John 3:17). We are called to love the
world as Jesus did, not be people of condemnation and hate.
We repudiate any and all violence perpetrated against individuals and groups
such as those in Orlando. There is no place for such violence in our
communities. We stand with the families and friends in the LGBTQ community
and others who were hurt and killed, and others who now live in fear.
No one---preacher, pastor or politician---should inflame the fires of
hatred and violence with ignorant words and thoughts. What we say has
consequences, both for good and for ill.
We reject any heretical teachings by so called “Christians” that pervert
the Word of God. These are not acceptable interpretations of Scripture,
they are simply false teachings based on hate not love. People of good
conscience may disagree on a variety of issues (politics, gun control,
marriage, etc.) but nowhere is there a place for calls of hatred and
violence. We follow the law of love, not hate.
We stand with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is the author and
perfecter of our faith. It is He who commands us to,
“Love the Lord Your God with all your heart, with all your soul
and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39
Let us love and live as Jesus did, with and for all people. Today and everyday.
